Johnny is talented! The staging, the lighting, the cast-mates and story structure are all designed to elevate the production value and set this show apart. This historic venue and his sharing of his personal connection to the team dedicated to preserving it is inspiring!
What I didn't like
I would propose the shaggy wig chosen for the narcissist character could (maybe?) be shifted towards a classic cut. Tapping in to an old-school Hollywood 50s Cary Grant vibe just might unlock deeper shades to this performative alter-ego. The dialogue and banter is quick and bright and might have a different payoff if Johnny and his partner lean into that cinematic style.
My overall impression
Johnny has found a great story and framework to share through performance his journey as a creative artist. Often non-linear and constantly developing, the artistic and personal highs can be just the other side of the lows. The ever-present question of Why an artist keeps going in the face of rejection is at the heart of this play’s explorations.
