Incredibly moving piece of work. I thought I came to watch a show and, instead, I was gifted upfront access to the insightful and complex nature of Mr. Cannizzaro's relationship to writing, acting, and life itself. Through beautifully written characters, we learn how Johnny copes with his ambition, rejection, and dreams unrealized. During the play, I laughed, cried, and deeply reflected on my own hopes and dreams. It was such an authentic and human experience. Johnny is an incredible actor. His character work, comes from a place of truth for him and his belief in these characters, create a conversation with his audience. They way his characters interacted with the other actors on stage was fun and whimsical at times and other times, showed us his vulnerability which was a delight to see. ... full review

Italian actor JOHNNY CANNIZZARO (2Ns,2Zs) has been around the block but could still double for Robert Downey any day of the week! Now he's concocted an 85-minute self-showcase that displays his considerable acting chops more than his writing ones, abetted by three girls of varying talents. And to be sure those filling his 70 seats are happy they came to his very "off-Hollywood" venue (the century-old Women's Club on LaBrea above Hollywood Blvd) he fields a free feast and a modest admission price! If you're an actor you must go see Johnny Cannizzaro's "In Development" as part of The Fringe Festival. It's funny, insightful, powerful...not your typical one man show or collection of scenes. In between each scene, which he's written, he engages with the audience and talks about his journey as an artist and there is Absolute Gold in the insights and experiences he shares. I've never seen anything like it! I was so moved that instead of going to a friends gathering afterward I went straight home so I could ponder and wrestle with some of the things that it brought up for me.
