The multiple characterizations and use of props to differentiate each character was beautiful, simple, and effective. The story itself is infused with so much humor, joy, and love… which is what makes the moments of fear, ignorance, and pain all the more compelling and impactful. So polished. So fun. And Ari manages to hold the audience the whole time, even doing a tremendous job of interacting with all the “baby fruits in boxes”.

My overall impression
I cried. I laughed a lot. It so brilliantly captures the naivety (if we’re being less generous, ignorance) most of us are raised up in, when it comes to the concept of gender. The innocence and insistence upon defending the version of the world Banana Man grew up in humanizes the people who have the hardest time understanding nonbinary gender, while also challenging them in a way that somehow feels wholesome while simultaneously not pulling punches.
