I loved that the other characters who had themselves figured out were willing to give Banana Man the space to grow and eventually ask for forgiveness. Sorry in advance to Banana Man, but I think the Plantain was my favorite character. Stylish, smooth, and so kind. It really warmed my heart. And I loved the costume change into the plantain, very satisfying to see a full transformation!
What I didn't like
Nothing. I’d love to see this show on a larger scale. Ari’s imagination is obviously so rich that given more than 15 min to load in and out (lol Fringe), I have no doubt that they could transport us to an even more immersive world of Banana Man live.
My overall impression
A delightful fruit salad of a show filled with themes of identity, acceptance, and queer joy. Beautiful visuals and a fun stage set up. Ari’s ability to seamlessly transition between numerous characters, all with distinct attitudes and voices, was incredibly impressive. While I enjoyed the show as an adult, this would also be a great show to take younger audiences to.
