About the Project

When 10-year-old Isabella is kidnapped by ICE, the community struggles to reconcile today’s world with a world they once knew. Told in a series of poignant and humorous vignettes, What Survives speaks to what it means to be human in 2026.

From award-winning writer-director-producer Rachael Meyers and featuring Broadway veteran and Drama Desk Nominee Carolyn Mignini, the provocative world premiere one-act explores identity, trust, and the importance of connection in the face of injustice.

In the Press

"With splashes of experimental theatre, WHAT SURVIVES takes a clear position on the current state of affairs and the angst and extremism lurking beneath our feet. … Meyers will shake you up and make you analyze not only what’s out there, but maybe even more importantly, what’s inside of you."

~ Joe Mosqueda, Glamgical

"The writing is strong and tight… The conversations feel authentic as if we’re just eavesdropping into people’s private lives."

~ Alex Garcia, @hereviewstheatre

“A powerful collection of vignette scenes that reflect the current political climate of the United States that manages to provide insightful and hard hitting questions without being pandering or uncommitted in its perspective.”

~ Edward Hong, Nerds of Color

"Powerful, tightly-crafted vignettes, each offering a different glimpse into the American nightmare … I have seen this style of political theater done before, but I think this raises the ceiling … Every performance is precise and deeply felt, with each actor fully embodying the emotional and environmental pressures weighing on their character."

~ Alon Dina, Stage Takes

"An exploration of contemporary culture, accountability, and denialism through the interactions of an ensemble of 10. Writer/director Rachael Meyers has crafted a thoughtful narrative with stunning performances."

~ Thea Pueschel, LAFPI

Audience Highlights

“A powerful exploration of what it’s like to exist in today’s sociopolitical climate.”

“An impactful new work with stunning performances by brilliant actors.”

“A timely piece of theater, emotionally powerful and raw.”

"Fabulous performances, exceptional writing, and wonderful staging of five different critical stories of our time… This play will leave you wanting to continue the conversation with your friends after the show."
