About the Project
”Before You Go” is a solo play based off a letter I’ve been writing for the past 4 years. Memories I wish I had gotten to tell my mom were precious to me before she went unexpectedly at 59.
Some days my chest still hurts. My eyes swell. And the pain I feel today is this: I experience my life as big and beautiful and full of love the way I do because of her. Yet she will never get to experience any of it with me. What I wouldn’t give to introduce her to all of my incredible friends. Have her soak in the pride I feel everyday having the greatest siblings on the planet. Listen to her unmatched screaming/cheering as I pass by during my next marathon. And good lorddddd would she have loved the sh!t out of my future partner.
But it doesn’t get to happen. Not in the physical way.
Perhaps though, with her love that lives on inside me, she’ll get to experience some of it too. And with the hope of that, I plan to live out the rest of my days like two people experiencing as much love, joy, pain, and everything else that makes this life worthwhile.
Before I go to do that, and before she goes and enjoys the freedom of all that’s next, we get to share a sweet exchange. This time onstage. 🎭
