The balance of humor and heartache. It feels light but never shies away from the emotional baggage just beneath the surface.

My overall impression
“Unplugged” is the kind of show that reminds me why I love theater, and also why festivals like Fringe matter. They allow artists to be daring, tell personal stories, and experiment with form. That latitude has given us the gift of this play: a beautiful portrait of family, told with humor, heart and unflinching honesty.
It explores themes of artistic ambition and the tough choices we make as life marches on. It asks questions anyone pursuing a dream will relate to. Why do we create? What happens when life gets in the way? How do we hold onto the things that lit us up?
The writing by Danny Rocco is incredibly detailed. Dialogue, breath, and sound work together in a way that feels remarkably lifelike. This creates an intimacy that draws you into the world. The two acts unfold in subtle ways and as the two come together, the result is cohesive and moving.
The performances were uniformly outstanding. Nuanced. Full of humanity.
If you’ve ever chased a passion or wondered what your choices say about your life, this show will resonate. Cannot recommend it more highly.
