The show was structured well, and the arc of Karen’s very personal story was subtle throughout but hit you in a powerful way by the end. Her performance felt grounded and honest. The message was clear and wasn’t reaching or trying too hard, it was very sweet. She really has a beautiful voice and kept the audience engaged with a good variety of songs. She didn’t overstay her welcome with any of the subject matter, it was sweet rather than too self-deprecating, and the device she used to open and close the show was very clever!
What I didn't like
The humor felt a little safe to me. It’s a fine like to walk with eating disorder and dysmorphia subject matter, but I thought some of the jokes/bits could be hit harder.
My overall impression
Karen’s performance was beautifully vulnerable and heartfelt! She has a wonderful voice and the songs she performed were perfect for the very personal story she was telling, which I found incredibly relatable. There were some good laughs that made the emotional moments that much more touching. I really enjoyed the show!
