I loved the directing choices most of all. You can tell it was fully fleshed out (no pun intended). There were moments that felt extremely rooted in the art of theatre and I know those choices lied in the writing and directing. The characters while insane, were relatable. Their struggles, told through comedy are what made them complex and beautiful. The SFX was absolutely shocking and astounding. I was seriously impressed overall. The set design was detailed and realistic. The costumes were convincing and unique to each character. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
What I didn't like
No notes. The material in this play is dense and it was executed extremely well – especially for people putting on their first play!
My overall impression
Women who eat was a thrilling delight. From the very beginning I was enthralled with the characters, writing, production design, pacing, etc. I felt a deep connection to each of the girls – it was a definite ode to womanhood no matter your story. It definitely left an imprint on my mind as I contemplate the feminist themes and moralistic queries which were presented in an entertaining dark comedy. There was never a dull moment. This play was MEATY (pun intended). It covered many basis of what it feels like to be a girl in a patriarchal society and did so well.
