What I liked
I enjoyed the distinct personalities written in for each of the characters. Although they were all in treatment for similar reasons, each felt like an individual with their own perspective and voice. I also appreciated the small visual details, such as the matching socks, which helped create a sense of shared environment and identity.
The cast brought great energy to the material, fully committing to the world of the play. The blood effects and sound design were especially effective and added a fun, visceral quality to the production. These moments felt bold and memorable.
What I didn't like
The transitions between scenes felt cumbersome and disrupted the momentum of the piece. Overall, the show felt somewhat messy, which could be fun if it was focused and purposful. There were several sections that relied heavily on exposition, and I found myself wanting more conflict, action, and forward momentum.
The production is at its strongest when it goes in for its darker, bloodier elements. Those moments felt exciting, theatrical, and unique, and I would have loved to see more of that energy throughout.
My overall impression
I loved the blood and guts and gore!! The performances are committed, and the horror elements are where the production truly shines. I’m excited to see where the creative team takes it next and would love to see the show become even bolder, braver, bloodier, and grosser as it continues to develop.
