The Cameo Theater provided a great space to set the literal stage for this alternate reality. I enjoyed seeing the interweaving of this narrative both visually and via the relationships. And nothing could’ve prepared me for that ENDING!! Mind blown. Honestly, I was so captivated that I wanted to know more about this world, these characters, and what led them to this place. There were mentions to mental health in our society, in particular, how that is viewed/treated among black and brown people, that I really wanted to see further explored and developed. Actually, I could see this being a series.
What I didn't like
The run time could’ve been tighter, but it helped that production included a brief intermission.
There was also some confusion about how to access the theater on campus/where to park, so a message blast to ticket holders also would’ve been helpful.
A note from a friend who came with me – she felt there were too many scene transitions and that it occassionally took her out of the moments with how many there were.
My overall impression
Shewan Edward wrote and produced a valiant effort with “Hummingbirds…” and this cast put their best foot forward into the roles they were given to bring this sci-fi mystery to life. I was intrigued by the story and impressed by the staging. Also, why not support a free show during Fringe!?! It turned out to be a thought-provoking piece of theater with a lot of promising ideas.
