She has wonderful sight gags. Her costume when she plays the period itself is fantastic, along with the polka-dotted dress she dances around in. The video jokes are really funny and well timed. My favorite joke was when the period rolled off the pad. That sounds odd, if you describe it. You have to see it!
What I didn't like
I saw this show when she was first working on it, and it has gotten so much tighter. It would be wonderful if she had a long run so she could continue to work out new bits and polish the show even further. At one point she picks out two members of the audience to play her and a boyfriend. It’s a great set-up. I think there’s potential to include those audience members more and play out this story more. Her charming accent can be a little hard to understand sometimes. Maybe she could use the video to show the text of some of the written jokes that she reads at one point? Also, she has a great bit with a paper bag puppet of her younger self. Someone (okay, it was me) posted a note on a previous performance that it was sometimes hard to distinguish who was talking, her or the puppet. I think she’s taken this note too much too heart. The bit works. Forget that silly note!
My overall impression
Irene is such a natural, wonderful, hilarious, talented clown! She makes an instant connection with the audience and can pretty much make us do whatever she wants. She can make us laugh for sure. Her stage presence is amazing. She has the audience in the palm of her hand from the get-go. She’s very lovable. The show also has a point, and because she doesn’t hit that message too hard, I think she really makes her point strongly.
