Fantastic use of slides and physical props, as well as the “standup mic” that became an effective running bit. Hertz also has a natural and welcoming presence.
What I didn't like
There were a couple technical issues on night one involving objects on an easel, but they were minor hiccups.
My overall impression
Seeing a one-person show is always a terrifying proposition — most people in L.A. have had the experience of being trapped in a small theater watching someone perform an agonizing monologue whilst you check your watch every two minutes. This wasn’t that!
Tom Hertz’s story is uplifting, tragic, heartfelt, moving, and above all, damn funny.
