About the Project
At 52, former stand-up comedian, and TV sitcom writer/producer veteran, Tom Hertz had it all – a long marriage, great kids, a big house in a fancy neighborhood, a lot of money, and his health. He created ‘Rules of Engagement’, a CBS sitcom that quietly ran for 100 episodes from 2007-2014. He accomplished all this despite – or maybe because – he grew up with a bi-polar mother, who he spent his childhood trying to cheer up. Then, at 52, an eight year series of truly awful things started to happen in his life. To use recent Oscar winning terminology, he had to fight one battle after another. And when it was all over, he had lost almost all the great things he had. He sank to the lowest point, thinking the worst thoughts a person can think, and then… two words turned everything around, and led him to realize that even though he had lost so much, he now had something that was even more valuable.
