The chemistry between the leads was great – romantic comedies are a lost art and I feel like it’s been a minute since I got to see two charming people charm each other and the audience. As they intrigued each other, the audience was drawn in too – I could watch them banter all day. The set design is filled with immersive touches, from having the ticket taker wearing a stewardess hat to the exit PA framed as a flight announcement that are playful and clever – the audience is cast well and you feel very invested in the story.
There’s a brief flight into a more stylized world, a dream sequence that was one of the highlights of the show that made excellent use of the cast.
What I didn't like
There’s some stuff I’d be interested to see more of (the crowd completely lost their minds for the guy who couldn’t find a working power outlet. It was a short scene but so memorable! I wanted to see that guy again!) and some stuff I’d be interested to see tweaked based on audience response. I’d love to see it again if it evolves based on this run!
My overall impression
Two strangers figure out what they really want in life, spurred on by a deeply chaotic airport terminal filled with its own minor dramas. A romantic comedy tucked inside a clown show, with a quartet of charming performances and brisk, clever writing.
