The music and audience interactions/participation. Liza’s voice, dancing, storytelling, vulnerability, and perseverance. Another show that has the makings of a trauma dump that is so deftly steered in the direction of love, healing, and joy. I’d hesitate to call it a solo show (and it’s likely not in that category for this very reason), as the audience really becomes a second (or multiple additional) character(s). An absolute delight and the perfect way to end this year’s Hollywood Fringe, sitting alongside my friends, singing songs, laughing, and getting to know a new friend of mine a little better.
What I didn't like
The projections were out of sync sometimes. A minor gripe (as I loved the show), but something to consider polishing if the show gets put up again.
My overall impression
Based on the show’s stated goal, I’d say it was Mission Accomplished! By the end of the show, I did indeed feel lighter, more connected, and more joyful! (I did not learn any new dance moves, but that has more to do with my own skills as a dancer)
It was such a joy to be in a theater full of people ready to embrace the healing journey this shows seeks to take you on, and keen to take in the medicinal powers of disco. And Liza’s talents and charisma are on full display. I also had the pleasure of taking in this show while her father and boyfriend (and members of his family) were in the audience, which added a beautiful layer of vulnerability and surprises. A show that clearly embraces contact with and relationship to the audience, which is a perfect fit for Fringe!
