The audience participation and theming were incredible and tied me to her world for a little while. It is incredible to see someone truly build their confidence up. Bravery is rare these days, and cowardice kills, so truly commendable to see someone get up there and strengthen their resolve. Especially after being broken down as mentioned in the show. Something that many people have experienced, but very few decide to get back up from.
What I didn't like
I feel like I wanted to hear more about her story. I could connect with the family deaths and, unfortunately, the abuse on a personal level but it’s always the journey towards the goal that makes a great story and I felt there was a lack of a middle part, along with some backstory that would have added to the gut punch of those deaths. I would love to hear about how Disco ties into it all. Music has helped me when my friends and family have gone. I always have a story tied to a song, so I’d love to know why those songs!
My overall impression
A fun disco karaoke experience! It is nice to see someone working towards something, although I will say it was light on the personal story aspects. Mention of some pretty rough stuff, but I wanted to know more about the process of how she got to where she was now, and why disco was a personal part of it.
