What I liked

“Sad Man Running From Bear.” (I loved that bit.). Yeah, so, here’s the thing : Stefan is not just self-deprecating (in the funniest manner imaginable), he’s openly emotional and vulnerable in a style that is weirdly, entirely his own. I mean, this show, surprisingly, reps one of the most deeply moving experiences I’ve had at the theater in a long time, and I’m not kidding around when I make the contention.

What I didn't like

Well, it would be great if the show could “have a run,” as they say, in the grand Mike Birbiglia tradition. (Yes, it’s that good.). I’m thinking that the Geffen could present this show, in that little theater that they operate (to the left of their “main stage”), with great effectiveness.

My overall impression

Andre Gide said : The role of the artist is to disturb.

This is a disturbing play. And fucking brilliant.

Yeah, this remarkable one-person conception by Stefan Marks is perfectly titled (though you won’t understand why until the final few minutes), and flawlessly rendered in various (beautifully-choreographed) tonal modes. Part meta-theater, part autobiography, all amazing, you’ve got to see it.
