What I liked
Many years ago I saw James Byous playing a bartender in a For The Record show. I instantly became a fan. His voice is so powerful, clear as a bell, and honest. He is the kind of singer that makes you feel completely confident that he’ll never let you down.
So of course I was going to see this show. I had gathered he had his struggles, but I never knew how deep they ran. This show really punched me in the gut. I’m not an addict but I have many loved ones who have fought that demon, and some who lost. It gave me a new and painful perspective, one I am grateful for.
The thing is, these performers could have been singing about mowing grass and it would still be compelling. They are superb. Singing about something so heartbreaking just made the whole thing so much more monumental.
What I didn't like
I loved this show so I don’t have any complaints. I might suggest a little dramaturgy to tighten it up, but even without a single change it is still outstanding.
