Tanner shows up so authentically and what begins as a seemingly goofy exploration of a life full of puns and cartoon characters evolves into something heartbreaking and hopeful. I’m grateful for Tanner sharing his story and the feelings it evoked have stayed with me.
What I didn't like
Some transitions will probably tighten up as Tanner continues performing the show, but it’s an incredibly impactful piece.
My overall impression
“hi, i’m tanner” is as goofy as it is unexpected, tragic and comedic, disarming and hopeful. Tanner genuinely delivers on his assertion that you will leave the show wanting to call your loved ones. This show shook me.
