Two performances stood out: Brendan Mulligan and Bert Emmet. Brendan’s grounded performance supported the comedic elements of the play, and brought a tenderness to a “villain” you could not help but root for. Bert created two distinct characters and jumped between them so quickly and with such ease, he must be a master of his craft.
What I didn't like
This was overall a wonderful production, but I will admit it dragged a bit to its sudden stop, and some of the comedic choices felt a bit like children’s theater.
My overall impression
One of the best shows at Fringe this year! What a fun way to be introduced to a much lesser known work. I will be keeping an eye out for future productions from The Porters of Hellsgate!
