I loved how the writing and Mimi’s solo performance brought a rich cast of characters and voices to life. For a play about secrets and breakups, this show is anything but lonely. As an audience member, it feels like we’re getting a close personal story from our hero, and that she’s living in a real world of friends and lovers on the stage. We the audience are also experiencing this ride together with each other, as we notice one another nodding along in affirmation or murmuring in shock at each new revelation.
What I didn't like
This was a perfect Hollywood Fringe experience, but in the future, I’d love to see Good Girl on a big stage with a huge audience. The spontaneous emotional reactions from the audience like the laughter, gasps, and tears are a major part of what makes this show so powerful and so perfect for the live stage, and it would be fun to see what even more of that looks like!
My overall impression
A smart and honest look into the modern, tech-bound world of marriage, sex, and kink that we’re all living in but nobody is talking about. Good Girl dives headfirst into the taboos we have around love, loyalty, and lust in a way that only the stage can explore. Present-day topics like therapy, social media, and dating apps are depicted in a realistic way that will set a new standard for storytellers going forward. In a world where we hesitate to tell the truth because we’re told our purity comes before our humanity, Good Girl breaks the mold and puts it all out there.
