I could write an essay on everything I loved about this show. As a writer, and designer and director, every aspect was perfect.
But I want to focus on sound design. This was an extremely complicated sound design. There were two sources and one was operated by the actor. So not only did Mimi have to stay in character with huge swings and precise timing and devastating changes, but she also had to hit her own sound ques. And she did so with the clinical accuracy of a seasoned technical pro. Not to mention, that sometimes the texts were read by the phone, sometimes she said them out loud and sometimes she paraphrased what the man said. And she had to keep it all straight. And not only that, but she used the tech to hit perfectly timed punchlines. And to top it all off sometimes the tech came from the booth! It was a masterclass on how to integrate great tech into a show.
What I didn't like
No such thing.
My overall impression
This is the best one person show I’ve ever seen.
Masterfully written, expertly performed, and technically outstanding.
