What I liked
The music really set this play apart and added an exciting element I haven’t seen before.
What I didn't like
While I really loved the brief scene at the end of the play (the lighting in this moment was incredible by the way), it did take a minute to change the set around. Obviously this is unavoidable in a theater like this and that scene was necessary so it didn’t bump for me, but maybe in future productions that switch can be made a little more swiftly. I truly think the story, performances, and production were all amazing!!
My overall impression
This was such an engrossing play. The addition of the live jazz music brought an entirely new dimension to the experience. I loved how it almost functioned as a form of fourth wall breaking, with both the audience and the musicians reacting in real time to the arguments between the couple. It made the whole production feel incredibly engaging.
The performances by Nikki and Charlie were amazing. Each scene felt like a slice of life, as if you were a fly on the wall witnessing the evolution of their relationship over time. Their chemistry really made this show stand out to me.
