I enjoyed the humorous takes on experience that would leave most of us in ruin. I was laughing the whole time and when I wasn’t laughing, I was speechless. The PowerPoint slides, the changing of clothes, and the high pitched noise really brought an immersive aspect that lots of plays don’t have. I really like this sort of production style and the direction was incredible for a one person play. It was really great, and I really enjoyed the storytelling and performance.
What I didn't like
There are a few loose ends in the stories, but it’s hard when you’re telling a story that’s still sort of happening. I wish I knew more about her diagnosis of bipolar and how she is treating it. If it doesn’t work in the play, I think having something afterwards could be released as a way of supporting individuals who also have bipolar or mental health disorders. Of course you can’t prescribe people to do what the actor does, but it could be helpful.
My overall impression
This play offered a raw look into how mental health and fitting into societal norms shapes our actions and behaviors. I really hope this play continues to get traction and seen by more individuals who may be struggling from mental health.
I came into it thinking it was gonna be very political, and I left being more aware of how individuals with bipolar disorders move through their manic and depressive episodes with an uncensored perspective.
