Thought the show did a good job of balancing humor for adults and children. The audience participation signs were well-integrated and popped up in some fun and unexpected ways (in general the show did a good job of leaning into what makes stage productions unique from other mediums). I also really liked the villain’s motivation and how it took a very real systemic thing and made it digestible for a young audience.
What I didn't like
Wasn’t a huge fan of the musical numbers, largely due to them being children’s songs with the lyrics swapped out. Obviously I understand writing custom songs would be a massive undertaking, but I thought the song choices felt aimed at a slightly younger age than the rest of the show. This does not include the short lizard-guy dancing sequences which were fantastic XD
My overall impression
Extremely charming! I already thought the gender reversal elements were clever, but including a diegetic gender-swap inside a story where the roles were already gender-swapped was genuinely inspired. Very excited for next year’s sheriff election.
