I really loved this concept. This play feels like it comes from a place of such truth, I really applaud the writing for being so vulnerable yet so funny and approachable for audiences. I loved Mandy Rubeli’s physicality. Her dinosaur walk was killer. And with highest praises, Faith Saporito was an incredibly convincing twelve year old boy- her costume and performance were amazing. Hailey Hudson and Devin Stone also both gave great performances. Claire’s internal struggle felt really truthful, and I honestly believed Hayden was THAT into school spirit.
What I didn't like
I feel one or two props or set pieces to delineate a car or arcade machine would place the characters more concretely in their environments. Or more specific movements from the actors when they interact with the car or play the games. That’s such a small detail that doesn’t affect the story, though!
My overall impression
DINOSAURS deals with trauma with a fun new (or prehistoric) angle! The play balances dramatic and comedic tones perfectly- making me genuinely invested in the characters while laughing lots.
