The performers handled the content of the show with care. The set design and lighting helped place us in the multiple environments onstage. There was thoughtfully placed levity in the dialogue to give the audience a breath from the heaviness that builds in the couples’ relationship.

My overall impression
Michael Dukakis does not shy away from the uncomfortable in, PUNISH ME, a play inspired by true events, that centers narcissism and intimate partner violence. The multi-hyphenate writer, actor, producer asks the audience to consider if the price of a violent marriage is worth the cost of admission to citizenship in the United States. Content warning – be prepared for onstage depictions of intimate partner violence.
