I really liked the cello performances, as well as Peter Levine’s nonverbal acting. The whole thing was great.
What I didn't like
Was it a dream? Someone mentioned that to me afterwards and it made a lot of pieces click into place; perhaps it could be made a lil’ bit more explicit, or at least hinted at a little more.
My overall impression
A clever production with a clear and deep love of vaudeville; a dynamic two-hander that keeps you guessing and fully utilizes the medium.
The performances are spot on; unmistakable shades of the Marx Brothers, with the silent-but-expressive musician and the gregariously-vocal ambiguously-European counterpoint. Both leads were committed and authentic, despite the absolute insanity that they were drawing the audience in with.
High-energy and extremely creative, it was an extremely memorable evening of independent theater that I only wish went for a longer runtime!
