What I liked

Boyle is a fantastic performer. The way she played so many different roles in the memories was impressive and endlessly entertaining; I felt like I could watch that for hours! I was on the edge of my seat, which is such an impressive thing to do for a solo show!

What I didn't like

The conceit of the escape room works super well, and I wonder if in a further showing of this outside of the Fringe boundaries if there’s more room to play with that idea, and have the puzzles to get to the memories be a little more complex. It works as is for sure, but there could be some more fun to be had with the riff on escape rooms!

My overall impression

ESCAPE ROOM was a delightful surprise from Fringe this year!! I was a walk-in and had little context and came away so thrilled that I saw it. What an incredible performance and a moving experience. Boyle is a phenomenal actor who grounds the hour-long show so well, taking the audience through her memory. Fun, moving, and powerful—add this one to your lists!!
