What I liked

I especially loved the way the performers broke the fourth wall and invited the audience into the conversation. Rather than observing the struggle from a distance, we become participants in it. The show understands that the battle between creativity and self-judgment is nearly universal, and it uses humor to make that truth feel both personal and communal.

What I didn't like

My biggest complaint is honestly that it wasn’t longer. At 25 to 30 minutes, Angst leaves you wanting more. The concept is strong enough, and the performances engaging enough, that I could have happily spent another half hour with these characters and their complicated relationship. That’s a rare criticism to have of a show.

Funny, smart, and deeply human, Angst captures the exhausting tug-of-war between the desire to create and the fear of being judged. It’s a reminder that sometimes the hardest audience to win over is the one living inside your own head.

My overall impression

Angst is a clever, funny, and surprisingly relatable two-man show that explores the relationship between an artist and the voice inside his head that never seems to shut up. One performer plays the artist trying to create, while the other embodies his anxiety, self-doubt, and relentless inner critic. The dynamic is instantly recognizable to anyone who’s ever stared at a blank page, questioned their own abilities, or talked themselves out of making something they cared about.

What makes the show work so well is how playful it is. The blocking is inventive, the performances are sharp. The lighting design in particular helps distinguish between the artist’s reality and the chaos of his internal world, creating moments that are both visually striking and emotionally effective.
