What I liked

Kelly commands the stage with her vulnerability, positive energy, and emotional intelligence, effortlessly shifting between moments of humor and raw honesty. There is no excess here – every moment feels intentional.

The minimalism of the production only amplifies its impact, allowing the audience to fully enter the emotional landscape to be shared.

Kelly has a magnetic feminine and confident energy that brings such a light to the experience, even during the moments of sharing her despair.

My overall impression

Army Brat is a deeply intimate and quietly devastating, one -woman show that transforms personal history into something universally resonant. What begins as an autobiographical account unfolds into a layered exploration of identity, displacement, resilience, and the invisible imprints of a transient childhood.

It offers a clear-eyed portrayal of what it means to grow up untethered but constantly adapting and learning how to survive in between. The story telling is specific, yet expansive, and the audience can find themselves reflecting in its themes of belonging and thinking about self-definition and freedom. At its core, this is a story about reclamation, of voice, of narrative, of self. By the end, there’s a sense not of resolution, but of integration, which feels far more honest and earned.

Army brat is a powerful reminder of the strength it takes to tell your own story, and to let it be seen.
Kelly is truly an inspiration and such a beautiful energy.
