The play is exceedingly personal. Phillips peels back the layers to reveal himself warts and all. His voice is timely, often dealing with zeitgeist approaches to relationships and self help/diagnosis culture while more pervasive timeless philosophies quietly reveal themselves.
What I didn't like
Sack of Nerves could be refined with the inclusion of more deliberate blocking.
My overall impression
Sack of Nerves is a raw, relevant, and resonant new work from Andrew Phillips. The hour long show blows right by. It’s often blisteringly funny all while maintaining a steady hum of emotional heft that finds its natural moments to swell for maximum impact.
