What I liked

As you can see from above about overall – so much! The cast was so in sync and all mixed media elements were perfectly timed. There’s so many areas that got plussed to make sure the maximum amount of comedy could be taken from every moment. The songs were fun. Icky D batted 1000. Photoshopped images of Hillary Clinton’s face on Joe Rogan’s body – incredible, never got old. The liminal theatre space being used as a growing self awareness/consciousness was used so well and became an important plot device/character moment. And while the ending did have some real/serious beats it really worked for the arc of characters and didn’t need to be undercut with a joke – great restraint.

What I didn't like

You were a victim of your own success in places where the audience was laughing so they missed the next joke. I know there’s often strict timing for shows to allow enough time for the next show to start – but it’s worth letting some moments hit for a beat so we don’t miss the next line. The Woke Song at the end, the performer was sometimes hard to hear the lyrics but I think it’s because she was playing all over the room so depended where you were sitting. If I’m being nitpicky you could lose some of the back and forth between Brandawg and Kyle at the end to tighten it up a bit for timing.

My overall impression

A clever and delightfully dumb musical about toxic masculinity. It’s like a Portlandia sketch in the specificity and ability to attack a certain topic without overstaying its welcome. The music is additive to the themes and smartly woven into the plot. The cast has such great chemistry you’d think they all did improv together for years. There’s mixed media and character adds that keep it fresh and moving – the hour FLEW by which is always a great sign. This kind of musical comedy is what Fring Fest is for, absolutely go see this and bring a friend.
