What I liked

I knew I was going to see some flashy moves, but I was not expecting the depth in which she told her story. Junru’s story is quite horrific, as we see her lose her innocence to a cruel system. Still, she cheerfully smiles and has an eternal optimism about her.

Everything about this show is fantastic. Junru’s performance and acting as she plays the different characters in her life, the pacing at which she tells her story, the movements she generously shows us, and her message of how she was able to reclaim her art filled me with immense inspiration and warmth. This is an incredible show and Junru and Cam should be proud of what they have created.

What I didn't like

Nothing. Everyone needs to see this.

My overall impression

An absolutely incredible show. Junru Wang delivers a performance for the history books. We watch as she gracefully performs the most beautiful movements I’ve ever seen, and then explains the horrors it took to get there. Simultaneously stunningly magnificent and grotesquely terrifying, I questioned my own values as she told us of the sacrifices it took for her to achieve the movements we were applauding. I couldn’t help but feel remorse for the little girl who lost her childhood, but I could not deny that what she got out of it was something unique and elegant. Was it worth it? That is a question only Junru can answer.
