What I liked

I think it’s a great script and design that is accessible to multiple theatres and platforms. Like this can stay a play or even be a film or series. The writing was well done and started conversations in a direct way that highlights the gray areas of sexual assault. I loved the scenic design and sound design as well! Not only were the writing and design successful, but the direction and performance of the actors was beautifully done. Pacing was great for a story like this, and each pause/beat felt like it had a purpose when we sat in them from time to time.

What I didn't like

I don’t really have any thoughts on improvement. I think the only thing I’m craving is that I kind of want it to be a two act. But that’s just because I want more from each character (not really Marcus, but everyone else). And I don’t even necessarily think it needs to be a two act. I think it’s successful on its own as a one act. I would just like to see more of what this means next for Sully and Charlie in terms of their careers and how it affects them. I also personally don’t love influencers, so that wasn’t my favorite part but that’s also a big part of the plot. And I don’t hate it.

My overall impression

I didn’t buy a ticket to Playback, what I bought a ticket to was GAG CITY because the entire time, my jaw was dropped! It was wonderfully executed and phenomenal from performance to design to writing. The actors did an amazing job! Kylie Buckles Hall as Bobby is the perfect choice! She captured the character in such a loveable way. Casting overall was great! The complexity of the relationship dynamics between each character was interesting and left myself wanting more from each of them. The sound design and inner workings of a podcast studio were fun and it did feel more intimate in a way, which did lead me to feel more engaged as an audience member. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
