The performances, the writing, the way I was still thinking of it all after I left the theater
What I didn't like
I suppose I questioned a little if he would really make the exact same mistake that she did and assault her in almost the exact same manner she did to him, DIRECTLY after they had just talked about it. The internal sub/dom dynamic of the sexual relationship explains a bit of this, as these are people who clearly don’t know how to safely take on those roles, but it tripped me up just slightly. I suppose there’s the more malicious reading where he was trying to subconsciously “get back at her”, but I didn’t really feel that in the rest of their dynamic.
My overall impression
Legitimately provocative. Raised real questions about romantic/sexual power dynamics, the commodification of the personal in public content for the online attention economy, who “owns” the story of an event that involves multiple parties, and modern gender politics. All while also being very funny!
