Everything, but most especially learning the statistics related to deaf people and deaf children, the story about the origin of the phrase “No Man’s Land,” and the character of Viggie (TL’s inner advocate)
What I didn't like
I wanted to see TL sing her song that was playing during the montage of her during her singing career. I would love to see her perform it live!
My overall impression
Raw, daring, dynamic, and completely gripping… TL Forsberg shines a light upon the world of deaf culture and the shadow of ableist culture while simultaneously holding up a mirror to it. Challenging audiences to sit with the discomfort of being invited directly into the lived experience of a world many tend to ignore, TL’s personal journey wrestling with her own identity and place within the in-between of hearing privilege and deaf culture pulls you in and does not let go, even after the lights have gone down. A must-see.
