What I liked

The writing is really the star here: sharp, economical, and purposeful (Chekhov’s Gun in full effect). The dialogue crackles, and both performances are confident and nuanced. The casting of two Black American men in the lead roles feels exactly right, and both actors are outstanding. The play covers a lot of ground: brotherhood, parenting, grief, men’s mental health, protection versus control, creative versus academic paths, and it never feels overcrowded. It earns every one of its threads.

What I didn't like

Genuinely hard to find fault! If anything, a little more breathing room in the early scenes might help audiences find their footing before the reveals kick in, though, in keeping with it’s the line “What if no one believed what you know is true?” some might argue that deliberate disorientation is kind of the point.

My overall impression

A taut, richly layered one-act that stays with you long after the curtain falls. Think M. Night Shyamalan brought to life on a bare stage, building tension that at first puzzles, then clicks into place through a series of reveals that are equal parts disturbing and deeply satisfying. A fascinating, accomplished piece of work.
