Nicole and Ben gave absolutely firecracker of performances! I loved Nicoles honest portrayal and her nuance. Her monologues had nice builds that contained hills and valleys. I think Ben was like a chameleon. He morphed into each character effortlessly. His character work was full of color and that was very exciting to see. You could tell they were both having so much fun up there and their energy on top of the sharp storytelling completely sucked me into this world.
What I didn't like
Sometimes the volume was quiet and the speech was not as clear so I could not always understand what was being said. But, I also have bad hearing lol. This is just a thought for if this ever gets performed by the same actors in larger venues! Everything else was so beautiful, just tiny directorial things here and there for more specificity from beat to beat.
My overall impression
I love a period piece. The fancy telephone and costumes all teleported me back like a time machine. Although set in the 1940’s, this piece is absolutely timeless. Barrett did a great job writing about universal struggles felt by all women in the world. I also loved the quick nature and snappiness. He has a gift for comedic timing. Felt very human and alive. One second you’re laughing and the next you’re crying. Those are the best types of shows too because those are the most like real life! I look forward to the beautiful things Barrett creates in the future, as this is only just the beginning.
