The characterizations were deftly drawn; I understood how each person ticked within minutes of their introduction. I really liked the majority of them, especially Yara, Carlos, and James.
What I didn't like
I wish the play had dived into Yara’s psyche a little more; why does she repeat [a specific lifestyle choice] over and over? And while the ending was particularly unhinged, I wish it hadn’t been quite so abrupt. Taking another beat, a little more buildup to the finale would have been appreciated.
My overall impression
This play went from unusual to unhinged in 60 minutes and I am here for it! The premise is darkly absurd, and the humor is character-based, two things I love. The writing is solid, the actors are wonderful, and the story really Goes There. Sources of inspiration include: Harold and Maude, The Addams Family Musical, and Mel Brooks.
