Inventive costuming and stage pieces. Inviting the audience into the intimacy of the piece. Confident, resilient and fully-present performance.

My overall impression
Whelp, this country girl literally “made do” while performing with a hole-y tongue (NOT the religious, snake-handling backwoods kind). The artist incorporated her unfortunate mouth injury spontaneously into the piece with a series of slides at the top of the show and an offer to the audience to shout “Whut?” out loud if they couldn’t understand something she said with a mangled tongue and a Mizz’ippi accent. From the completely surprising, inventive and delightful entrance (won’t spoil it) to the molting into her main character, Sam G. brings the audience along for a ride through a cultural landscape that is full of contradiction, sadness and whimsy. Excellent use of audience interaction (and the booth) – the clown is in dialogue with us for the entire piece. So engaging and honest. HIGHLYRECOMMEND!
