The pace and energy of the show are nonstop and endlessly surprising. There’s a lot of content and yet so many bits are built to be open ended and improvised with the audience and the tech, it feels like anything could happen, and very well anything probably could.
What I didn't like
I believe this is a first production of this show, and there are obvious signs of that in the design, but if anyone can do a show out of a bunch of trash and make it so that we don’t care that the props are cardboard, it’s Sam. In many ways the cheap design elements actually add to the vibe of it all and provide many funny meta moments for the performer to riff on and play with. As with any new work, I’m sure the right elements will tighten with time, and it will become more and more produced to perfection but at this point I don’t feel any desire for the show to be anything other than what it is.
My overall impression
This show is Amphetamaic. Hog Wild. A feat of Rustic, Red-blooded, Resplendence. Sam is a performer of unmatched energy and presence, with a lot of love for the craft of clown and a spirit of pure hype. How many beers did she chug during this show? Impossible to know, but it didn’t stop her from delivering an hour of belly-laughs, delightfully absurd theatrical constructs, and a sobering reminiscence on love and the stories make life feel special. Somehow, hidden pristinely in plain sight amidst all the wackiness, we are left with a question of who are we and what are we doing here? Highly recommend.
