Emily Clark and Lucas Alifano have a terrific dynamic. The humanity of their performances makes this a memorable hour of theater. The exploration of humanity in this play treads into very dark territory, but the empathy of their performances keeps it lively and riveting even as darkness threatens to overwhelm the light.
What I didn't like
The black box space was utilized beautifully to make a believable, lonely crisis call center. I would love to see this with a full set.
My overall impression
This play is a great one-act thriller. Even in very lively, upbeat moments it never allows itself to drift into a sense of safety and ease. The performances ride a razor’s edge from start to finish, with remarkably sensitive direction for such a frightening play. I kept having to give my arm rest the occasional squeeze of reassurance because something just seemed not-quite-right and I could feel it in the pit of my stomach.
