This show is everything I love about Fringe. I met the creators briefly at office hours, exchanged postcards, only half-remembered our meeting when making my schedule. Almost made the mistake of deprioritizing getting my ticket, as the marketing of the show intentionally downplays the absolute knockout punch of comedy this production is. I am so glad I trusted my gut and got my ticket. (Especially because the ELEVEN AM show I was at sold out!)
Max Charbonneau is up there with the best of the Fringe clowns, deserving a place in the vanguard of the clown takeover (liberation?) of the HFF. His delivery is flawless. His pacing is unparalleled. His audience interaction skills are warm and engaging. He and Kallie Cifra have crafted something wonderful that is one of my favorite things and one of the funniest things I’ve seen this year.
The script is hilarious, snappy, and self-aware. The show mocks Hollywood superficiality while acknowledging the human desire for connection, validation, and recognition that often lies at the heart of artists’ most self-serving instincts. I felt so connected to the character and the audience.
What I didn't like
We were promised branzino and an open bar, but they were all out of both by the time I got to the Plunge.
My overall impression
Come for the branzino, stay for the bran-zany comedy!
