There’s something so lovably gentle about Max Charbonneau’s Frank Sriracha. Sure, he’s a cheeseball character, but he’s never sleazy, he’s like a pal who genuinely makes you feel special to be included. He’s a guy who thinks he’s more famous than he is and that, as a trope, can often produce jaded, cynical characters but Charbonneau chooses to create someone who is dreamy eyed, positive and sometimes vulnerable. There’s such strong character backstory to Sriracha and I could feel that really anchoring everything. It’s such a fun character to spend time with and even when the games he plays with the audience have potential for chaos, the audience was still under Sriracha’s awkward charm to keep us cohesive. Charbonneau is so connected to the audience and he’s a trustworthy performer who doesn’t need to be arbitrarily edgy or loud in order to draw you in and win you over. The show is wonderfully directed and structured, all of the physical prop comedy was so tight and fed into the story effortlessly. I think the entire container of the premise was so solid, and yeah, it’s just really well directed so hats off to director Kallie Cifra.
What I didn't like
Sriracha sung us out at the end of the show but I wish I could have heard him sing DURING the show! Maybe he will next time…that guy is full of surprises!
My overall impression
An absolute party where every audience member feels very special to be in the presence of a lovely star. Like being let in on a really funny friend’s inner circle. A wacky character clown piece with a huge heart, built out of expertly wielded charm and constant cleverness. So many chances, as an audience member, to be let in on the wild games of this epic event. I felt so positive and light after leaving.
