I really enjoyed how the story was written- I thought it did a great job of portraying memories, and jumping between timelines effortlessly. I also thought the cast had great chemistry on stage and felt natural together.
What I didn't like
One note I’d have is simply some body language when portraying particular emotions. I thought the acting was great overall, but I noticed for example, the lead did a mannerism through the show sort of picking at his nails or fingers when expressing pensiveness, nervousness or sadness, that sometimes took me out of it, and felt a bit unnatural to how I felt someone might act. Could’ve been a creative choice of course, but was something I noticed.
One other thing in terms of the writing – the final phone call between the friends – I felt maybe some of the dialogue might have been a bit too emotional, or desperate, to see his friend one more time. I think perhaps it could’ve been a bit more subtle or understated. Considering all of the layers and dynamics of their friendship throughout the years, i felt it was a bit dramatic in how it was written. I also felt some of the responses of Tyson in terms of writing felt a bit cold in a way that, to me, were one of the only moments that felt a bit unrealistic.
My overall impression
I Saw Three Eulogies opening night and loved it! Really enjoyed the depth and layers contained in the plot, the acting was immersive and engaging throughout, and the production overall did a great job of weaving between perspectives and timelines that made the show super dynamic. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a great show!
