What I liked

Given how often the play will drift from the present to the past, the general structure of the piece should be commended as it naturally moves from one scene to another and never leaves the audience confused about when or where they are. The performances are wonderful and specific and honestly the greatest part.

What I didn't like

If I had one note, it would be about a sound effect in the opening being a little loud?? But they know about it and now it’ll be perfect.

My overall impression

Let me start this review by admitting that I am a little biased. And when I say “a little,” I mean a lot.

But what I want to say isn’t really for the benefit of strangers (though I do hope you take something away from it). I’m writing this for the people I love who created this work, because I want them to know just how fucking spectacular they are.

A conversation about death, grief and complicated friendships is well-worn territory. We’ve all seen it, read it, lived it (and in my case, sometimes written it). Too often, those stories drift toward cliché or become heavy-handed in their attempt to make us feel something.

That is not the case here.

What they’ve created is nuanced, raw and deeply intimate. The play doesn’t just ask you to reflect on the losses you’ve endured, it quietly, insistently turns you inward. It asks you to sit with the moments when you yourself have felt untethered or unsure how to move forward in your life.

The performances alone are worth the price of admission. And as someone with intimate knowledge of the work these artists have produced in the past, trust me when I say this is some of the best they’ve done.
