The writing was thorough, the acting on pint. Most of the characters complex leading to a compelling story.
What I didn't like
I have a different history of the birth of the factory. Weavers were craftsman making cloth with the aid of machine. American cotton and the cotton gin created large supply to England. First cottage industry of weavers in cottages. But the powerloom did not need a weaver, just someone to feed it. Unskilled labor meant children. Land had literally been stolen by the English gov’t the have nots had the entire family working to get by. The children lost arms and more in the machines. Teh power loom was programmable for designs using punch cards, the same punch cards as computers. The link to AI is more direct
My overall impression
the characters were complex, sympathetic caught in a fraught time. The story compelling.
