Evelyn Rose plays numerous characters with seamless clarity. Each character was distinctive, funny, and memorable. The music is both touching and funny. Evelyn’s vocals are so strong and she flawlessly uses the music to elevate the story and character. The way the story unpacks OCD, therapy, mental illness, and personal growth is genuinely touching and profound.
What I didn't like
I’m fascinated by where Evelyn ends and Rosie begins, particularly since after the first entrance Rosie says, “Hi I’m Evelyn, but you can call me Rosie.” If it’s a fully true personal story, I think that’s worth leaning into.
My overall impression
Rosie’s Brain is a tender and heartfelt musical exploration of navigating life and relationships with mental illness. Evelyn’s voice soars with moving original music that channels a folky pop style reminiscent of Sara Bareilles. The story is funny, real, heartfelt, and leaves you with a little bit of restored faith in humanity.
